Digital Media and Research Methods in Contemporary Theatre Education
Vasilis Zakopoulos is Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre Studies, School of Philosophy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He studied Educational Sciences and specialised in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education, obtaining a Master of Arts (MA) and a PhD from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. He has also worked in primary education, including six years as a school principal, at ASPAITE from 2003 to 2006 as an Academic Associate, and at the Hellenic Open University in 2020-21 as Tutor-Counsellor for the course ETA50, from 2021 to 2024 for the course ETA60 “ICT in Education: online learning and e-learning”, and from 2025 to the present for ETA62 “Digital Media in Education and Communication”, serving as Coordinator during the winter semester.
His research interests, as well as the courses he teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level, include, among others, Theatre and digital and emerging technologies in education, Research Methodology in Theatre Studies, and Introduction to the Methodology of Theatre Research.
He is also the author of the book “Digital Technologies for Theatre/Drama in Education, the Supportive Role of Digital Media in Research and Practice” and has participated with presentations and published articles in many Greek and international academic conferences and scholarly journals.

Participation in Projects
- Supervisor of the knowledge area of Theatre Education within the field Arts & Culture, which belongs to the sub-project “Transformation of conventional curricula and educational content into open-source material, which will be interactive, integrated into digital environments, accessible to all, with artificial intelligence capabilities, dynamic updating, and synergies with teacher communities”, announced by the Institute of Educational Policy, for which COSMOTE has been declared the contractor.
